PHYSICAL
education
In formulating his original concept for St. Samuel’s thirty years ago, Professor Dover adhered firmly to the classical dictum mens sana in corpore sano - a healthy mind in a healthy body. He was determined to focus on boys’ physical development as well as the development of their minds.
Our campuses offer a range of scholarships to young men from poor backgrounds who show promise of outstanding physical development. But our other students with a more academic focus are also expected to take a full part in our sports activities too.
On entering the Academy and at regular intervals thereafter, all boys are given an extremely thorough physical examination to determine their individual aptitude for physical activities. A wide range of both individual and team sports and other physical activities, all carefully supervised by our highly trained and experienced staff, is subsequently available to them
